Plain-English assumptions
Employer super calculator
Compare salary plus super vs package including super
Salary plus super
The amount is treated as cash salary, with employer super added on top.
Package includes super
The amount is treated as total package, so cash salary is separated from super first.
Package comparison
Separate super from cash pay
Employer super is valuable, but it is not ordinary take-home pay
A clear pay comparison shows cash salary, employer super and total package separately. The general super guarantee rate is 12% for 2025–26 and 2026–27, but the calculation base, maximum contribution base and employment arrangement can still matter.
Cash salary
The gross salary used for the personal income-tax estimate.
Employer super
The employer contribution generally paid into a super fund.
Total package
Cash salary plus employer super and any other included benefits.
Take-home pay
Estimated cash after personal deductions; employer super is excluded.
Worked example
$100,000 plus super is different from a $100,000 package
At a simple 12% rate, a $100,000 cash salary plus super shows $12,000 of employer super on top. If $100,000 is a package including only salary and 12% super, the simplified cash salary is about $89,286 and super about $10,714. Always ask for the written package breakdown.
Check before deciding
- Confirm whether the advertised amount is plus super or includes it.
- Ask which earnings the employer uses for super calculations.
- Check the maximum contribution base for higher earnings.
- Keep salary-sacrifice contributions separate from employer contributions.
How to use this page
